State Highway 273 Reconstruction And Realignment Project

State Highway 273 from the Forest/Reservation boundary to Crescent Lake will undergo major road reconstruction and realignment beginning Thursday, August 17, 2006 and will continue thru late fall/early winter of 2007. Road and area closures associated with the road work will impact travel along SH273 which is one of the major routes to Big Lake/Crescent Lake, and Reservation Lake.

The following closures are scheduled on a weekly basis.

State Highway 273:

a. Road closure - Forest boundary to junction of FR87 – 24 hours per day, 7 days per week *

b. Area closure - Junction of FR87 to junction of FR554 – 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Area closure is two hundred fifty (250) feet in each direction from the centerline of State Highway 273 **

c. Area closure - Junction of FR554 to junction of State Highway 261 Monday 6am – Thursday

6pm. Closure is two hundred fifty (250) feet in each direction from the centerline of

State Highway 273 ***

d. Sheep Crossing – Closed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week ****

Pit Closures:

a. Burro Mountain Pit – FR8037 – Area closure from the junction of State Highway 273 to south

of the pit. Closure is 24 hours per day, 7 days per week

b. 409 Pit – FR409 – Area closure from the junction of State Highway 273 to east of the pit. Closure is

24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Campgrounds:

a. Winn Campground – Closed Monday 6am – Thursday 6pm

b. Gabaldon Campground – Closed Monday 6am – Thursday 6pm

Mount Baldy Wilderness:

a. West Baldy Trailhead – Closed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week

b. West Baldy Trail (#94) – Open, although it can not be accessed by the West Baldy Trailhead

c. East Baldy Trailhead (at Gabaldon CG and Phelps Cabin) – Closed Monday 6am – Thursday 6pm

d. East Baldy Trail (#95) – Open, although it can not be accessed by the East Baldy Trailhead Monday

thru Thursday

e. Crossover Trail(#96) – Open, although it can not be accessed by the West Baldy Trailhead 24 hours per day, 7 days per week or the East Baldy Trailhead Monday – Thursday

Trails:

a. West Fork Trail (#94) – Closed two hundred fifty (250) feet in each direction from the centerline of State Highway 273. Remainder of the trail is open

b. East Fork Trail (#95) – Closed two hundred and fifty (250) feet in each direction from the centerline of State Highway 273. Remainder of the trail is open

c. Railroad Grade Trail (#601)– Open from the trailhead on State Highway 260 to the junction of FR87.

Closed from junction of FR87 to junction of State Highway 273 at Lightning Ridge. Open from junction of State Highway 273 to Big Lake Railroad Cove. The closed portion of the trail is a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week closure *****

Rivers / Lakes:

a. West Fork of the Little Colorado River – closed 24 hours per day, 7days per week ½ mile west of the

Sheep Crossing bridge, and ¾ mile east of the Sheep Crossing bridge. Remainder of the river is open.

b. East Fork of the Little Colorado River – closed Monday 6am – Thursday 6pm, two hundred and fifty feet on each side in each direction from the centerline of State Highway 273. Remainder of the river is open.

c. Lee Valley Reservoir – closed Monday 6am – Thursday 6pm
